Most Common Vaping Questions

The most commonly asked vaping questions.

1. What is vaping? Vaping is the inhaling of a vapour typically produced by an electronic cigarette (e-cig). An e-cig is a device that simulates the process of smoking tobacco from a real cigarette, but without all the nasty chemicals. As this device produces vapour and not smoke, this is why it is known as vaping.

2. Is vaping cheaper than smoking? In the long run, yes. You may spend a bit of money when you are first getting set up as you will need to buy all the bits and pieces (device, coils, charger, liquids etc,) but once you have all this, it is a much cheaper alternative. On average, a 100ml shortfill (roughly around £15) will last you 3/4 weeks, whereas a person who smokes 10 a day will have to spend £11 every two days.

3. What is an Ohm? An Ohm is the measurement used in electrical resistance. In regards to vaping, the difference between the two is the resistance and the method of vaping that will be used. Standard coils have a higher resistance, meaning less charge and liquid will pass through them, whereas sub-ohm coils have a lower resistance, meaning more current can go through. Sub-ohm vaping is better for direct-to-lung vaping and cloud chasers.

4. What do e-cigarettes smell / taste like? Is it the same as a normal cigarette? This depends on which flavour you have in your device, as the vapour produced reflects the flavour you have in your device. Unlike normal cigarettes, they don’t leave a nasty smell on your fingers or clothes, in fact a lot of people actually love the smell of vapour.

5. Can I take my vaping products on a plane? Yes, you can take your e-cig on a plane, however this must be stored in your hand luggage and you are not permitted to use it on board your flight. You are also not allowed to take containers more than 100ml through security, so be careful when choosing what liquids to take through with you. You will also need to make sure these liquids are in a clear plastic bag. Some countries have banned the use of electronic cigarettes, so ensure to check before you travel.

6. Are there any health implications with vaping? As e-cigarettes do not provide any carbon monoxide or tar, they are much better for you than smoking. They are typically made with VG, PG (if you don’t know what this is, see our previous blog) and flavourings. Unless you have an allergy to PG which is very rare, there are no real dangers to vaping, and if you do have this allergy, you just need to find a liquid more suited to you.

7. Is it legal to smoke indoors? Technically, vaping does not fall under the UK smoking ban. It is not illegal to vape indoors, however it is down to each establishment what rules and regulations they impose. It’s always better to check before you start vaping somewhere.

8. What liquid is best for a beginner? If you are a social smoker, or don’t smoke a lot, you are best off going for a low nicotine strength, such as 3mg. If you are a light smoker, we would recommend going for 6mg. An average smoker who has up to a pack a day should go for a 12mg liquid. Finally, for a heavy smoker (more than a pack a day) you should go for 18 or even 24mg. When you first start vaping, you should also try a 50/50 VG/PG liquid until you decide which one is best for you.
